Emon married his beloved Nellie in January, and naturally I have to broadcast this to the world. The party started at the gaye holud on the 22nd of january, and continued with the marriage ceremony the day after. The deal with gaye holud and such things have been explained by me before.

Last time I blogged about the traditions of a Bangladeshi wedding, I mentioned a lot, but not everything. One of the things I left out, was the tradition where the groom (and his party) has to haggle for a suitable price for his bride when they arrive at the reception dinner. This is nothing serious, just a little fun "game" (after all, it is the bride's family who has to pay dowry to the groom's family), and the price is rarely higher than a couple of thousand taka. Emon got away with only 500, if I remember correctly.. Quite a bargain! The main dialogue was between Emon and Nellie's sister (in turquoise sari), and when they finally agreed, they all came inside, and we had a good time.
